BirGün newspaper was given late to arrested People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş on the day his interview with the newspaper was published. The prison administration stated that “it endangered the safety of the institution” as the reason for the confiscation of the newspaper. The decision was reversed again by the administration two days later and the newspaper was handed to Demirtaş due to “not being inappropriate.” The Sunday issue of Cumhuriyet Newspaper has previously been given to Demirtaş with one day delay as well after his mother’s interview with the newspaper on May 13.
